Friday the 6th was the plan for a game, it ended up becoming an arvo game due to my back needing Physio in the morning.
Crusader had been asking for a game for some time and so when we could both make times match up it was organized. Only a small game compared with many of the games going on at the moment, but a good size to get Cruise's head around some of the rules (which he had'nt seen since mid last year).
The armies were made up as such
Imperial Guard
Saim Hahn
Turn 1 saw Cruise win initiative and begin cautiously with the movement of both a Wild Rider Warhost (WR) and the night spinners up behind cover of some hills, this allowed the IG to quickly push into the building defenses and to secure control of the Wraith gate. A quick hit and run with some more WR's and Cruise began to get the idea of the game, pile up the BM's and break units, very shortly the Reg. HQ was on the run and the titans were doing their job.
A hard push up the right flank saw the Falcons/Fire Prisms annihilate a Storm trooper formation, only to receive the same back from a second storm trooper formation.
The Leman Russ's made a push up the center to support the Infantry and hit the titans hard, but doing 4 hits and no wounds was a poor show of IG might.
Turn 1 was to end with some serious IG blood spilt by the Eldar .
Turn 2
This turn again saw the Eldar win initiative and the first thing that they did was to open fire on the Leman russ's, scoring an impressive 9 Macro hits and killing 6 tanks!
Revenge came with on of the Falcon units being sent away broken, The Storm troopers threw themselves into the enemy trying to catch the Falcons and destroy them, they hit a WR formation and broke it, but had set themselves up to be hit back hard, The Avatar finished off what the Guardians and the 3 formation of WR couldn't do.
Turn 2 ended with both sides having multiple units broken and both sides having taken serious casualties, however the Wraith gate objective was still held by IG and and there were still 2 untouched titans on the board.
Turn 3
The final turn saw a couple of seriously hardcore close combats happen with a huge amount of support fire power, an entire Infantry Co. was destroyed by support fire but the attacking unit also broke.
The Titans did their usual magic and the pulse weapons hurt the unit holding the objective, leaving only a single base left to run away, the tanks scored some more Blast markers on the Titans, but the Holo-fields were just too hard to break without more heavy firepower.
The end was declared and hands were shaken, a first win in Epic for Cruise leaving the IG yet to win a game.
The game was a lot of fun, it struggled a bit at the start with Cruise trying to really understand that the game is just as much about breaking units as it is about destroying units.
Thanks to Cruise for coming an being so patient as I taught, hopefully this is a start of many more games.
