Sorry to say we didn't take any photographic evidence of the game onyx... Was most impressed with the way the UltraMarines keep making their armour saves - but to take out a draw with my blooding of the army was 'lucky'. The game finished due to time constraints & we'd only had 3 turns... I'm sure that Cthulhu's IG would have seen off the loyalists if it had gone to 6 turns - we'll just have to make sure a camera's there next time! ;D I still can't wipe the smile from my face - the game was on a knife's edge from the get go, but I had a unit of Land Raiders & my broken force commander's squad in Razorback's wiped from the field by pursuing Drop Troopers in Valkeryie's... Thanks again to my opponent for a great game...

Any chance of listing the armies you took into battle?

OK, I promised army lists, so here goes: Space Marines- Tac squad with Force commander in Razorbacks
- Tac squad in Rhinos
- LR detachment #1
- LR Detachment #2
- Thunderhawk combo (Assault squad and Dev's)
- Whirlwind Detachment
- Termi Detachment
- LS Detachment
- Warlord Titan
Imperial Guard- Reg. HQ with a support squad and Ogryns
- Mech Inf Co. with a support squad and Snipers
- Artillery Co. (6 Bas & 3 Manticore)
- Tank Co. with Vanquisher
- Rough Rider squads x2
- Storm Troopers in Valkyrie's x2
- Flack Batteries x2
Nothing overly special in the IG, just a taste for the Snapster to get an idea of the army.

Those look like a good couple of lists. I imagine that Warlord would have given Gump a serious headache. With a list like that, I imagine you were chasing the BTS and Defend The Flag victory conditions, yeah?

We really only got to the end of turn 3, I was really on the back foot with the titan and was actually about to start to use my Artillery Co. to direct fire on the Warlord as the Leman Russ's had taken such a huge beating the turn before and were suffering from high amount of blast Markers.
Where we left it saw both side not holding anything really and when it was all worked out, it roughly became a draw.

Yeah. You've really got to position your forces to take objectives and win by Victory Conditions rather than just wipe each other out, or else you're pretty much guaranteed a draw (if not an outright loss) every time.

For Snap it was his second serious game and I definitely think he's got the hang of it. I showed him the little trick of the T-bird, Devs and Assault squads and now Im wishing that I hadnt...

My next article discusses Marines tactics with a variation on that theme. I don't think you want him to read that, either.
