The (heavily biased) description below will give you some idea of how the game played out.
In the first turn, the Ultrasmurfs steeled their resolve and marched to contest two objectives on the right flank, while three of their detachments and a Warlord dug in to hold two of the left flank's objectives. The entrenched marines weathered the storm of Chaos fire reasonably well, but did little damage in return.
The center cannot hold...
In the second turn, yet more Chaos fire pulped scores of marines across the board, but still the boys in blue held firm.
Chaos armour hammers the flank
Two Terminator detachments teleported in to contest the Chaos blitz objective, while a landing craft laden with Terminators, Land Raiders and Deveastators caught the Chaos Warlord's formation in a deadly crossfire.
Task Force "Bite Me" thows itself into the fray
The Chaos foe proved intractable, however, and many, many marines (oh so many) were lost in a direct assault on the Chaos leadership. Between the Greater Daemon, Warlord and Champion, two formations of Assault marines and a Thunderhawk were utterly destroyed--the lesson being "Do NOT assault the formations of Chaos Warlords!!".
Despite this, and despite the withering fire unleashed by the Chaos horde, the marines eventually destroyed the Chaos leadership (winning a Break Their Spirit objective), held the Chaos blitz objective, and held the line against the Chaos advance to very nearly win a They Shall Not Pass objective (a sneaky Rhino got into the Ultramarines half to nix that). At the end of turn 3, the score was 2-0 to the Ultramarines, and the battle was won.
I'd like to thank the Academy...
